our Vision

Empowering an interdisciplinary scientific community that embraces diversity within the research sector, encourages open and robust research practices, and fosters better research cultures for future generations.

Mission statement & objectives

The purpose of AIMOS is to enhance the utility of research by advancing credible research practices, promoting the study of how research is conducted, and driving improvements across the research ecosystem.

AIMOS seeks to achieve this purpose through the following objectives:

  • Promoting improvements in the accessibility, quality and transparency of research;

  • Supporting the critical evaluation of research practices;

  • Facilitating education and training in open science practices and meta-research; and

  • Other activities that advance our mission, including advancing regional lobby efforts to increase collaboration with and support by governmental organisations.

In 2026–2028, we will deliver these objectives by:

  1. Running an annual research conference that connects Australasian research communities from various disciplines, organisations and countries.

  2. Expanding our reach by offering at least one conference outside of Australia.

  3. Supporting the development of MetaROR as an alternative publishing platform.

  4. Embedding and supporting the activity of Australasian Reproducibility Networks to deliver targeted education and training initiatives.

  5. Fostering interdisciplinary and international connections and collaborations with organisations with shared values and visions.

  6. Responding to and cultivating opportunities to shape government policy and research agendas.

  7. Creating opportunities to engage and support research students and early career researchers.

  8. Strengthening and expanding the governance of AIMOS and establishing a Board skill matrix which includes lived experience from the Global South.

Financial security

As a grassroots organisation, the success of AIMOS depends upon building and sustaining a strong financial operating base. Therefore, a ninth objective is:

9. Develop a multi-strand approach to accruing a sustainable revenue stream.

This strategic plan was approved by the AIMOS board in October 2025.
