Jennifer Byrne

Jennifer is a Professor of Molecular Oncology at the University of Sydney and the Director of Biobanking at New South Wales (NSW) Health Pathology. Jennifer Byrne has spent her scientific career analyzing childhood and adult cancers at a molecular level; including the identification of cancer predisposition genes, the analysis of human tissue biobank operations and the semi-automated analysis of verifiable experimental reagents in biomedical research publications.


Jennifer was recognised as one of the Nature journal’s “Ten people who mattered” in 2017 due to her work in identifying systematic research fraud in her field. She was recently awarded an Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas Grant for her project on the “Prevalence and impact of fraudulent cancer research publications targeting the functions of human genes”.
